    In grimy, poor, rundown and therefore most likely bad neighborhoods, it may be prudent to blend in as not to become a target for robbery or assault. One way you may stick out in such scenarios is if you’re wearing new / clean clothes, shoes, bag and a hat. The ‘dirt technique’ is physically rubbing or spraying these items with dirt (that you find on the ground) to make them appear less “shiny” – as a form of urban camouflage. Depending on where you are and what you’re wearing, this can have powerful effects of blending in. This can be taken further by doing the same to your face, hands and hair.
